The slab is constructed on well compacted granular fill crushed stone or marl. They are normally pre fabricated offsite and transported by truck. Some slabs have hollow channels running through them these hollow core slabs are used to help reduce weight and also to allow cabling and piping to be run through the slab. Suspended slabs are made of concrete and steel mesh the same as a ground slab. Renovations can often incorporate concrete slabs even when the original building does not. Back to garage foundation. A concrete slab is a common structural element of modern buildings consisting of a flat horizontal surface made of cast concrete. The mesh reinforcement in the slab is placed in the top with 1 covers. Detail 21 shows a suspended slab with no beam.

The top steel reinforcement is important. Steel reinforced slabs typically between 100 and 500 mm thick are most often used to construct floors and ceilings while thinner mud slabs may be used for exterior paving see below in many domestic and industrial buildings a thick concrete slab supported on. Concrete floor slab construction process includes erection of formwork placement of reinforcement pouring compacting and finishing concrete and lastly removal of formwork and curing of concrete slab. The design of suspended floors should conform to requirements of aci 318 and aci 421 1r.

Assemble and erect formwork for slab2. Added rooms can use slab on ground or suspended slabs. When renovating rooms with timber floors it is often possible to replace the timber with a concrete slab for added thermal mass and quietness underfoot. The ground floor is made up of suspended concrete slab or beam and block floor supported by the external and internal load bearing walls which transfer the loads to the foundations below.

In such application the suspended slab can be concrete slab on metal deck formed concrete slab or precast concrete deck. The design of slabs on ground should conform to the recommendations of aci 360r.
