The Frick Collection Second Floor

The frick collection has new plans to open up the second floor of the museum formerly the private quarters of the frick family.

Michael bodycomb beyond the grand staircase rope since the museum opened in 1935 nearly every visitor has stood at the bottom of the magnificent marble staircase gazing past the rope and imagining what lies beyond. This new construction will create much needed new educational rooms on its first floor and a cafe with views of central park on the second floor.

The frick family bought the panels in 1916 and originally installed them in adelaide frick s second floor boudoir. The frick collection renovation includes a new passageway linking the museum and the library. The footprint of the room was created by combining the former ladies dressing room part of the butler s pantry and the adjoining silver safe. More intimate than the grand galleries of the main floor these second floor spaces are particularly well suited for the display of the frick s collection of smaller scale decorative arts sculpture drawings and cabinet pictures many of which are rarely displayed.

Its 1930s building is beside the museum but not actually connected to it.
